As with everyone in the PSFS family, I am very sorry to hear about Charlie. He was a kind man who made everybody smile. I am the person who wrote the book on the history of the bank and Charlie was good enough to give me time at each of the last several dinners to update the attendees on the status of the book and to promote the book on its completion. Of course I appreciated all of the time and effort that it took Charlie to arrange the annual gatherings, which so many looked forward to attending. I'm sorry I could not attend the service but my thoughts and prayers are with you. Bruce Sauerwine

i do NOT want this story shared with anyone UNLESS the family ok's it first!

charlie & i met working at PSFS when we were both very young men. i was a avid fisherman & somehow charlie picked up on it. he said he had been fishing several times & had never caught anything. i said i'll take you fishing & i promise you'll catch plenty of fish. at the time my pregant wife & myself were renovating an about to be comdemded house. i said something about having to replace the whole back porch. charlie says hey i might be able to get you some boards. i said great. he was to be at my house a 6am for our fishing trip. well, 6am came & went & no charlie. finally about 6:30 i see charlie coming down the street. he had a big old car as i remember & sticking about a foot & a half out the side window are at least 50 brand new porch boards. first words out of his mouth were. sorry i'm late but those darn people had steel straps around the lumber & i had to go back to the house to get a hack saw. unknow to me charlie had a new housing developement near his home. well we unloaded the wood & we were off to LBI. i had a 12' boat & we launched from the causeway. i bought a pound of squid which came in a white paper box. we started catching blowfish as soon as we anchored & charlie was excited as an 8 year old. we caught over 100 fish before running out of bait. charlie said now what do we do ? i said watch. i took a knife & cut the box up in strips & we caught the fish on them. he couldn't believe it. he was so happy. he talked about that day many times over the next 30 years & we always got a great laught out of the story.

to charlie's beautiful family. your father ( as you know) was a VERY special person. dry sense of humor & always quick with a joke. a gentle man who was alway kind to everyone one. he touched so many lives in a positive ways. a kind word, a smile, a gleam in his eye or a funny little story. always had time to listen. he was a character in the BEST sense of the word. he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. we worked at PSFS together off & on for 30 plus years & what fun he made it. rest in peace my dear friend!!!!

To the Bechtel family, I was deeply saddened to learn of your father’s death. I feel privileged to have worked with Charlie at PSFS in Business Banking, I believe it was called, back in the early 80’s. He was so very charming and funny. I loved his dead-pan jokes that he would often tell with a twinkle in his eye. I looked forward to seeing him every year that I could make it, at the PSFS reunions. There's a picture of me, your dad and Mary Redheffer posted on this web-site from one of the reunions that I just love. Your dad would call me every year to remind me that the reunion was approaching and hoped that I could make it. Charlie’s passing is a sad loss for you as well as many others of the former PSFS community who loved, respected and treasured him. Charlie will always remain alive in my and other’s memories. To the Bechtel family: I had the great pleasure of working with Charlie at PSFS for many years. Charlie always had or found a way to bring a smile to your face while looking you straight in the eye. He also found ways to make work fun as he worked just a hard right beside you with a gleeful smile and often with a twinkle in his eye. On behalf of the NAMI of Bucks County Board of Directors i offer our heartfelt condolences to the Bechtel family. Charles was not only a fierce and devoted advocate for people with mental illness and their families but he was a also a dear friend to all who knew him. His sense of humor was truly contagious and made many of our board meetings fun and he will be truly missed.
